End Of Season Report - Written by Saoirse Aherne and Aine Hardiman
The 2026 season for the Mungret Community College girl’s soccer team was a collective effort from teammates and coaches alike in cultivating a squad with enough resilience to turn the tide of any game. A fierce competitive spirit during training helped drive the team towards success, both on and off the pitch.
The effort put in by the coaches; Ms. Hickey and Mr. Connelly, to give the girls support in their endeavors was outstanding. Training was in place every Wednesday after school and then eventually were moved to a tournament at lunch time on Monday due to low availability. This adaptability to accommodate the players is exactly the team spirit which helped the team do well. It was difficult to arrange matches and so this tournament gave the team a chance to play soccer together in school.
At long last the coaches were able to find a match against Laurel Hill, and it was worth waiting for. The team played exceptionally well together, given that it was their first game playing together. Many good passages of play unfolded which led to the scoring of 4 goals (Orlaith Kingston, Chloe Whelton, Chloe Hannon, Sophie Frawley). There was great work from the goalkeeper April O’Keefe making some great saves and keeping us in the game. The defensive line was very strong and the midfielders worked very hard to create scoring opportunities and move the ball forward. The strikers played well, getting 10 shots on goal.
Although we didn't play many matches, the real win was the experience we gained along the way. Thank you to Ms. Hickey and Mr. Connelly and the entire squad for putting in a tremendous amount of effort in this year’s season!
U19 North Munster Quarter Final
U19 north Munster quarter final, Mungret played st Mary’s of Newport and we won 1-0. A really well fought game with chances for both teams. The first have was very tight with but Mungret scored at the start of the second half with a well worked corner kick. George Lloyd scored the goal, from there on Mungret put in a brilliant defence performance holding St Marys at bay to secure the win and move to the semi finals.
TUS Sponsor Soccer Jerseys
A huge thank you to TUS who recently sponsored two new sets of soccer jerseys and shorts for both our girls and boys soccer teams. TUS have been sponsoring our soccer teams since Mungret Community College opened and we are extremely grateful for their continued support. Our senior boys soccer team will play their semi final on Friday 27th of February and are hoping their new jerseys will bring them some extra luck on the day.

Our first year boy's soccer team were out against Killaloe recently. First team (red) won 3-0 v St. Anne's Killaloe. Goals from Jamie Hannon, Tom Traynor and John Coyne.
Team in blue also played a friendly match v Killaloe.

Our first year boys enjoyed a lovely friendly match with Croom. Over 50 first year boys have worn the MCC jersey so far this year which is an incredible achievement. Big thank you to their coach and year head Mr Connolly for all his help and guidance to the boys!

Girl’s Soccer MCC 2025

The Junior & Senior Girl’s team train every Tuesday from 4-5pm. We have a number of students that are on Limerick County soccer team and who have went for trials with Treaty United’s academy. Aisling Hardiman currently plays with the Treaty United U19’s team.
The Senior team started the season in October with a narrow defeat to Salesians Secondary school in the Munster Senior Cup 6-5 after extra time. Mungret held a 2-0 lead at HT and deservedly should have progressed. However, Salesians fought back well. Chloe Keating and Katie Keogh were impressive in this game having both scored excellent goals.
The Junior team had some good results in the league this year. They drew with Coláiste Chiaráin in Croom 3-3. They narrowly lost 1-0 at home to St Mary’s Charleville having played the better football and last week, they drew 1-1 to Coláiste Chiaráin, Rachel Galvin with a great goal for us. The Juniors play their final game of the year vs Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh on Wednesday.

2022/2023
Our three boys teams had some mixed fortunes. Our u19s made it to the north Munster semi finals, losing out to eventual winners Pallaskenry in a tight game.

Our first year team were very competitive throughout the North Munster group stages and bowed out to St. Mary's of Newport in the quarter final despite being level at halftime on a wet and miserable spring day in Newport.
Our U15 team were awaiting another tussle with Crescent Comprehensive in their North Munster quarter final before our school closed on March 12th. They were looking forward to this as their next outing following the narrow defeat to Desmond College in an enthralling FAI Munster Cup Final in Adare back in February.
We look forward to welcoming our new first year cohort in September and encourage you to get involved in sport, the soccer teams for one will welcome ye with open arms!
