VEX Robotics Scrimmage
Our VEX Robotics teams recently attended a scrimmage in Nenagh College, where students enjoyed a fantastic day of learning, teamwork, and hands-on problem-solving. They collaborated brilliantly, gained valuable experience, and embraced all the excitement that comes with robotics and friendly competition.
We are delighted to announce that, for the first time, we have introduced a Junior VEX Team, who will compete in the upcoming VEX IQ competition. Sincere thanks to DELL Raheen for generously sponsoring our new VEX IQ kit, which has allowed our Junior Team to get off to a strong start.
In addition, our two Senior VEX Teams are preparing to take part in the VEX V5 competition, also taking place in January.
We are excited to follow their progress and look forward to cheering on all our teams as they showcase their skills, teamwork, and creativity in the January competitions.

MCC Students Win Top Prize at Munster’s Largest STEM Awards
(28/03/25)

Congratulations to Lily, Eoghan and Abbie on winning the top prize at the BD STEM Start Awards, Munster’s largest STEM awards program for second-level schools. Their project, ‘Independent Me’, secured €10,000 for our school and €2,000 to share among themselves, recognizing their outstanding innovation in healthcare technology.
Their project ‘Independent Me’ is designed to support people with early-onset Alzheimer’s, helping them remain independent at home for longer. The project includes a smart app featuring voice reminders from family members, prompting users to complete daily tasks such as taking medication, eating meals, or getting ready for the day. By integrating technology and compassionate care, the team developed a practical solution to improve the quality of life for those living with memory impairments.
The BD STEM Start Awards challenge students to apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to real-world healthcare problems, preparing them for future careers in the field. Winning the top prize highlights their dedication, problem-solving skills, and ability to create meaningful change through innovation.
Well done to the team on this exceptional achievement—we look forward to seeing their project develop further!
