The 2025/26 season marked the return of cricket at Mungret Community College and it has had no less than a cracking start. Several new members have joined and are learning new skills. The cricket stand dedicated at the Extracurricular Fair which took place on the 7th of October,r encouraged first years to join cricket..
A group of Transition Year students, led by Skandan, have coached juniors since we returned to school. In addition to this, Ms. Murphy contacted the Munster cricket organisation. Hugh Harvey Kelly, Level 4 coach of the Munster Cricket Union, agreed to help coach students. He was kind enough to provide us with a cricket set consisting of bats, balls and stumps to ensure that cricket in MCC can reach new heights.
The future looks bright as we look to the remainder of the year and reach places that were once just a fever dream. Here’s to hoping that the 2025/26 season can be the year we obtain the coveted silverware. Thanks to Ms. Murphy for organising and coordinating cricket again this year in MCC.

Our cricket team, which was formed in 2021, has gone from strength to strength, now with over 20 members.
We have players from different heritages all training and playing together as a team; some Indian, others from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Poland and Ireland.
We train on Wednesdays after school whenever the weather permits and always have a very good turnout. We warm up, practice drills and play a game during these sessions. We support and encourage each other, developing our skills and having fun together.
Thank you very much to our captain Ayan Ullah (Pery 2) who led us to a nail-biting win vs Crescent Comprehensive school recently and to Ms. Murphy who organises our training sessions and matches.
Mr. Kieran O’Brien of COBI Sports has sponsored our team again this year, providing us with additional cricket tops so we are all togged out and looking smart for matches.
We are looking forward to playing CBS Sexton Street and Villier’s Secondary School in the near future an there is talk of a cricket blitz in term 3.
