On Wednesday 24th of September, Mungret CC hosted the 10 a side Junior Munster Schools B plate. On the day, seven schools travelled to Mungret GAA to take part. Schools involved were Newport College, CMI Thurles, Gcluimnigh, Scoil Pól Kilfinane, St. Ailbes Tipperary, Croom and Mungret CC.
On the day, action took place across 3 pitches with two different groups. The girls began the day very strongly and won all three of their group games and finished top of the group. This earned the girls a place in the final where they took on a very strong Scoil Pól side. In a very close and competitive match with great performances from both sides Mungret CC came out on top. Lucy Barry accepted the plate on behalf of the team.
Well done to the girls on a fantastic day of camogie which saw the girls win the schools first ever camogie title.
Thank you to Mungret GAA for the use of their fantastic facilities and to our three referees Phil Dee, Mike Flannery and Cyril Doolan.

Munster Senior Camogie Final

Hard luck to our senior camogie team that played in the Munster senior camogie final. The girls battled until the end and put in a performance that they can be very proud of. Special mention to our 6th years who represented the school so well over the last number of years. A special day also for our captain Jayne Casey who turned 18 today too!

Match Report:
On Tuesday the 6th of May, our Senior Camogie girls made their way to Moyle Rovers GAA Clonmel to take on Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School Waterford. Our girls had some fantastic group stage performances and results which progressed us to a Munster Semi Final against Presentation Ballingarry Tipperary. On this day, the girls put in a very solid performance and showed excellent teamwork to come away with a victory against a very strong and physical Ballingarry side. Our four Sixth Year girls gave great encouragement to all our younger players on the day and it made for an exceptional game of camogie from our Senior girls. Nearly two months later, the day had come for the girls to attempt to win the school’s first ever camogie title. Before the game started Jayne Casey (Captain) spoke of how much camogie meant to her and the three other sixth years girls and how they had one last chance in the Mungret Community College jersey. On the day our girls were seriously determined putting up a huge battle against an extremely strong Mercy Waterford side. It was a very close encounter in the first half with Mercy pulling away from Mungret CC towards the end of the second half. Unfortunately it was not our day but we can be extremely proud of the effort made by our girls. They did not give up and battled extremely hard until the final whistle. Thank you to our supporters, students, parents, guardians, Ms. E Finn and Mr. O Mahoney on the day for their exceptional support. A special mention and thank you to our four Sixth Year girls (pictured below) Brooke Quinn, Aisling Hardiman, Lily Quinn and Jayne Casey for all their hard work and dedication to school camogie over the past six years.
1st and 2nd Year Camogie
Our 1st and 2nd Year camogie team had a very strong year this year. It was great to have so many 1st years joining our MCC camogie team this year. The girls had great team performances in their group against very strong sides which saw them make their divisional final. They played Abbeyfeale and had a great win in the semi final. Unfortunately we came up against a very strong Castletroy College team in the final and lost. We could not have asked for more from the girls on the day. Many more chances for these determined and enthusiastic camogie players in years to come.

Our camogie girls train each week in Mungret GAA. We have had a huge increase in numbers training this year which is fantastic. Our senior girls put up a great battle in their first two matches of the Munster Championship. Massive well done to our younger girls for stepping up and playing against much older players than them. Our junior girls lost their first round of Limerick against Rathkeale but had a great win against Laurelhill last week in the Munster Competition and are now through to a Munster Semi Final. Our first and second year team had a great win last week against Croom. Many of the Camogie girls have made County panels for the year ahead. Six 2nd Years have made the u14/15 teams, a 3rd and TY student have made the u16 team and a 6th Year student has made the minor panel. Teachers: C Gleeson, J Hynes, A O Malley
